A user is a person that can log in to Platform9 Clarity and also holds the ability to access the Platform9 Cloud API to build, develop and run their business critical applications and services.
User can hold multiple roles within the Platform9 Cloud depending on the region or tenant they have access to. A user could be a cloud administrator, or a self-service user such as a developer or a tester that performs various operations on Platform9 Cloud
Access to Platform9 can be provisioned using either using SSO credentials via SAML 2.0 compliant identity federation or a simple username-password combination stored local to the Platform9 Cloud. Users are granted access to Platform9 Clarity and APIs based on the user role that has been assigned to the user on a tenant.
About User Roles
A role is a set of privileges that can be assigned to one or more users. When one role is assigned to a user, the user can perform tasks that the role permits the user to perform.
Roles are predefined for Platform9 Clarity and API access.
There are two roles with respect to Platform9 Clarity and APIs. They are as follows.
- Self-service user
The self-service role enables users to build virtual machines based on the flavors and networks that have been configured to the tenant the user is a member of. Self-service users have restricted views that are limited to the tenant that they have been assigned to and are not able to access any resources that are outside of their associated tenant/s.
An administrator is a super user of the Platform9 Cloud and have unrestricted view of the Platform9 Cloud not limited to the tenant/s that the user is a member of.
An administrator has the rights to perform all operations on the Platform9 Cloud including but not limited to creating tenants, users, networks and configuring hosts.
