Take Volume Snapshot

You can take a snapshot of volume that may or may not be attached to an instance. Snapshot of available volumes or volumes that are not attached to an instance does not affect the data on the volume.

You must be a self-service user or an administrator to perform this operation.

Snapshot of a volume serves as a backup for the persistent data on the volume at a given point in time. Snapshots are of the size of the actual data existing on the volume at the time at which the snapshot is taken.

To take a snapshot, follow the steps given below.

  1. Log in to Clarity.
  2. Click Volumes and Snapshots in the left panel.
  3. Select the checkbox for the volume from the list of volumes. Take Volume Snapshot
  4. Click Take Snapshot on the toolbar seen above the list of volumes.
  5. Enter the Snapshot Name and Description. If the snapshot is for a volume attached to an active instance, and you still want to take the snapshot, select the Force check box.
  6. Click Take Snapshot.

The successfully created snapshot is visible in the Volumes & Snapshots> Volume Snapshots tab.

You can take snapshots of volumes based on your data backup policy.

You can use snapshots to restore the volume data to the state at which it was at the time of taking the snapshot.

You can use the snapshot of a volume to create an image that can be used to spawn an instance later.
