Create External Network

When you create an external network, you must specify the details of the external network configuration.

You must be an administrator to perform this operation.

To create a external network, follow the steps given below.

  1. Log in to Clarity.
  2. Click Networks in the left panel.
  3. Click the Networks tab.
  4. Click Create New Network seen on the top right corner. Create External Network
  5. Select External Network as the Network Type.
  6. Enter the Network Name.
  7. Select the Admin state to start the network in.
  8. Select the tenant to which the network is available.
  9. Select the provider network type. If you select VXLAN as provider network type, you must specify the VXLAN ID.
If you select VLAN as provider network type, you must specify the VLAN ID.
  10. Select the physical network that the external network utilizes.
  11. Select the shared check box to make the network accessible across all tenants in your OpenStack cloud.
  12. Click Next.
  13. Click the Create a subnet now check box if you want to create a subnet.
  14. Enter the following details if you want to create a subnet. This is an optional step.
    Field Description
    Subnet name Name of the subnet
    Network Address (CIDR) Network address of the subnet
    IP version Version of IP protocol selected. Currently only IPv4 is supported, hence IPv4 is the default value.
    Gateway IP IP address through which devices outside the network can be accessed.
  15. Click Disable Gateway if you want to keep the subnet private.
  16. Click Next.
  17. Select the enable DCHP text box if you wish to enable DHCP addressing.
  18. Enter the allocation pools from which new IP addresses can be allocated.
 Enter the allocation pool in the following format <start IP address>-<end IP address>.
  19. Enter DNS name server addresses, if applicable.
  20. Enter the host and subnet routes in the format destination_CIDR, next hop.
 For example, you could have multiple entries in the route, if you want to route the traffic through a proxy or firewall.
  21. Click Next.
  22. Review the configuration details and then click Create if all details have been correctly entered.

An external network is created with the specifications mentioned in the network configuration.
